JC Mont-Fort & EDF secure permit for 125 MW solar in France

10 Nov 2024

JC Mont-Fort and EDF Renewables have received the building permit for the Roujanel photovoltaic park, a significant solar project located across the municipalities of Prévenchères and Pied-de-Borne in Lozère, southern France.

Spanning 122 hectares and consisting of approximately 241,758 solar panels, the facility has a projected total installed capacity of 125 megawatts-peak (MWp). Once operational, it will generate enough clean electricity to meet the annual consumption of around 80,000 inhabitants.

The Roujanel solar park is notably rare due to recent changes in French regulations. Under France’s new Renewable Energy Acceleration Law (https://www.legifrance.gouv.fr/jorf/article_jo/JORFARTI000047294305**)**, solar developments involving the clearing of more than 25 hectares of forest land are no longer permitted. As a result, Roujanel represents one of the last large-scale photovoltaic projects authorized under the previous framework.

Given its unique regulatory position, JC Mont-Fort intends to retain this asset for long-term operation, highlighting its strategic importance within the company’s renewable energy portfolio. This project exemplifies JC Mont-Fort’s commitment to driving France’s renewable energy transition while securing sustainable long-term growth.
