JC Mont‑Fort wins 50 MW solar concession in Côte d’Ivoire

On December 2, 2024, JC Mont-Fort’s Ivorian subsidiary, Katiola Solar Power, signed a landmark concession agreement with the Government of Côte d’Ivoire to implement a 50 megawatt peak (MWp) solar photovoltaic project in Katiola, located in the Hambol region.

This strategic project is a cornerstone of Côte d’Ivoire’s national plan to diversify its energy mix and significantly increase the proportion of renewable energy sources. It aligns directly with the country’s ambitious objective to reach 45% renewable energy by 2030.

The Katiola solar project will notably contribute to enhancing the country’s electricity generation capacity, with a projected annual production of approximately 72,921 megawatt-hours (MWh). Crucially, the facility will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 4,750 tons of CO₂ annually, reinforcing Côte d’Ivoire’s commitment to sustainable development and combating climate change.

Key project details:

  • Installed capacity: 49.96 MWp
  • Solar panels: 89,208 polycrystalline modules, each rated at 560 Wp
  • Annual electricity production: ~72.9 GWh
  • Location: Katiola, Hambol region, Côte d’Ivoire
  • Environmental impact: Avoidance of 4,750 tons of CO₂ per year

Next steps:

The project encompasses comprehensive activities including engineering design, securing project financing, construction, and long-term operation. With the concession agreement now in place, JC Mont-Fort is advancing towards financial close, scheduled construction start, and ultimately achieving full commercial operations.

“Katiola Solar Power will be the template for bankable utility‑scale solar in Côte d’Ivoire,” said JC Mont‑Fort Founder Michel Jouven. “It underlines our commitment to West Africa’s energy transition while delivering tangible benefits to local communities.”
